Apologies in advance, I have already run out of superlatives after day 2... and I will be slow with blog updates as end of day priorities are to wash clothes, wash body, care for feet , eat and sleep ... then do it all over again the next day ☺
Anyway ,back to the journey... great decision to break our Journey at Orlsson, we enjoyed some good pilgrim food including the obligatory red wine and great community, a good nights sleep in a room with 2 older Irish ladies and 2 yanks ... love those bunk beds , thanks Anita for taking the top one !
Our learning started in earnest the following morning ... pack quickly , have breakfast and get away wondering all the time , "did I leave anything ? This pack is Too heavy !! stop whinging Paul ... remember why you are doing the Camino in the first place ."
Reflection 1:
Before leaving home lay out all your gear and your money....and take half your gear and double your money.!
So Day 2 we crossed into Spain then tackled Col de Leproeder @ 1,450 mtr in the Pyrenees before descending sharply into Roncesvalles .
The walk saw us leave the tree and cattle covered countryside to the barren and often windswept rolling mountains with a scattering of sheep and horses ..and the obligatory line of Pilgrims of all shapes ,sizes and nationalities ... moving forward @ varying paces... stopping to enjoy the magic of the place and grab a desperately needed breather whilst enjoying the community of new found friends sharing your pain and joy.
LESSON :2
anyone can set an impossible goal and achieve it!
What an amazing journey over the pyrenees it was, walking in the footsteps of pilgrims from down through the ages following a mysterious call of God to Santiago .... many not making it back home to their families .
So as we descended down the mountain to Roncesvalles the age old question came to mind ... "is climbing uphill harder then going downhill ?" whatever your answer -.. walking poles will save every part of your body!!
So we finally made it to La Posada hotel .-. sorry.. we thought that we would treat ourselves to some luxury and save the bunks and snoring For another night☺
