So on day 7 the Camino has taught us another powerfull lesson that , as in life , not every day Is going to be sunny and not every sky blue !
After 6 days of beautiful Sunny weather we were woken during the night with heavy rain falling and so as we got ready for another early start our preparation was going to be different ... a day walking in rain and mud and it is interesting how that changes your mindset.
Once we had a cafe con leche & toast our mind set improved, so with wet weather gear on we strode confidently out into the wet , dark and colder streets of Puente le Reina-, armed with my secret weapon , a german made hands free trekking Umbrella . what a superb idea ,worth the 400gms and it worked a treat in the rain ( previously used on a hot day with equal satisfaction ) .... got a lot of comments and weird looks and along with my lycra styled dirty girl gators ( I will explain later ☺) we got into lots of discussions.
REFLECTION 5:
it does't matter that people think you are weird when you are dry & comfortabe and they are wet !
So We left on Our 21.5km walk to Villatueta walking across the ancient bridge out of town, climbing out of the Valley on ever muddier surfaces torn up by the usual line of pilgrims ... The intermittent rain and cold and overcast sky's keeping pilgrim heads bowed a little to ensure no loss of footing . The frustration of taking wet weather get on & off was a frustration to many -.- but not to the guy with the handsfree trekking umbrella☺
We trekked though a variety of landscapes always dotted with wheat fields often planted in small and unusual places , over a road built by the Romans ... ouch those stones hurt ... through vineyards, olive groves and some gorgeous villages . particularly Cirauqui which features in many Camino posters, the ancient village on a hill with a winding Camino laid out before it . -.but the wet and overcast conditions didn't do it justice.
As the rain grew heavier we made our way up yet another hill to our rural hostel where I am sure we are the only english speakers -.. the shower was hot and wine soothing so as we contemplate a 24.5 km walk to Los Arcos and finish all our Coms ..- all is well with my soul .
LESSON 6:
On the Camino after every hill there is a valley . after every descent there is an ascent . -. if you take one step at a time you will make it through..true for the Camino, true far life.
