The walk to Naverette was tough not because of the distance but the compound effect of being the fifth day on the road. The challenge of making your way on the Camino though the city of Logrono is well documented ... this was the first time in the our walk that you couldn't find the traditional yellow arrow or shell -.. but thanks to my app. Camino Companion we made it though.
This section highlighted the difference between walking surface we find an the Camino and the ones we love and Those we dis like .-. it goes Something like this
+ soft leaf litter / grass
+ flat sandy grit style path
- cement paths / ashphalt roads
- rocky paths
and its amazing how much time you spend navigating the best way through for your poor feet.
Today was a hard surface day. everyone of thou 40 plus thousand steps pulverising our feet till they slowed their pace to a shuffle . We were bought back to Camino reality as we recognised objects we had read about so many times and had dreamt walking past the long line of latticed crosses affixed by pilgrims to a chain linked fence that borders a freeway or the huge fighting bull that sits imposingly on a hill overlooking Navarelte -... but after a few token pies The priority was to get To our accomodaton and rest ... all part of the Camino experience.
We finally made it into town to our first unexpected blessing .-. a wonderful room with a view overlooking the valley where we flopped On our bed exhausted,
Once recovered and fed ( thats another story of a lovely dinner belove 8pm )
we wandered our way into an imposing 16 th century church of the Assumption to be overwhelmed by the splendor of elaborate alter and surrounds this' was accentuated by recorded . religious chanting reverberating Through the vaulted ceilings .-. a special moment as we sat and meditated in silence overwhelmed by this unexpected Gem we have been given in this town in Spain.
