What was suppose to be an easier day walking 24km in undulating countryside to Los Argos turned into one of our most challenging days !
But first let me recount quickly our delightful stay at the Rural Hostal Arandigoyen just off the beaten track where ,despite no one there speaking english ,we were made to feel so welcome though the 9 pm dinner start was challenging after a long day walking ... and were the only ones for dinner ! The young grand daughter of the proprietor was there so I gave her one I my finger clinging Koala bears I bought over with me ... that worked a treat and so food soon turned to our table . A good night was had with the locals and a bottle of vino tinto ... we admired the determination of the aging proprietor as he got totally exasperated trying to speak into google translator app. then . .. giving up and pointing to parts of his body ... now that was Funny.Wanting to leave early the following morning they insisted we have a good breakfast ... so it was with full bellies and full hearts we were on our way to Los Arcos .
So what was suppose to be 24.5km according to one I my many usefull apps... turned into close to 30km which is a challenge in its own right but through in incessant rain , the lightning , the mud , the missing the Camino sign and consequential extra distance back (Thank goodness for My Gps app!) ... and the loss of patience for fighting circumstances and trying to press on to hard to get out of the rain... we met an Irish Lass called Rachel who had good term for our pace that Day ... it was " like molasses "
we finally made it our Pension @ los arcos, freshened up and had our first Paella dinher but despite the performance of my amazing trekking umbrella to keep me try the feet got wet so my archilles heal or should I say little toes manifested theire usual blisters ... So it was blister treatment 101 but we were both suffering , wondering how we could get up & do it all again. ... but we would...and did.
REFLECTION 9:
When the elements of the Camino or life are overwhelming you..don't always fight it..be flexible like the trees that bend in the wind & rain...you will continue to stand long after the walls have fallen.
