Day 41 - Only 100 km's to go

We awoke to another typical Galacian day .., foggy with a slight chill to start, burnt off around 12 md as the temp climbed to 30 deg C , blue skys abound and green wooded rolling hills dominate the view .
It was a little like a fantastic Galacian ground hog day again except the number of pilgrims has doubled .. no more walking a whole morning on your own , its the Camino rush hour ... it wasn't that bad everyone was nice and this is our transition time... you do get a lttle sick of saying "Buen Camino" 50 times an hour though.☺
I had to laugh at a comment made by a couple who we walked with on & off through the day and were staying at the same accommodation ... acknowledging that their luggage had been delivered, congratulated each other for surviving their first strenuous day of 25km ... my inner self urged...just keep quiet Paul its their Camino!
Today we started with a full breakfast with bacon & eggs so our engines were fired up for the traditional first up climb and you know there is going to be a similar steep descent..this time into Portomarin at the end of nearly 27km day ... the challenges remain right to the end.
I am experiencing some intermittent pain with what seems to be a pinched nerve in my back at various times as my body adjusts to the pack each day ... no free rides or steps on the Camino ... you have to work it out a step at a time.
After a couple of days in Galicia you are aware not only of its unparalleled beauty but the ever present smell of cow manure ... you walk past it , you eat near it and well the small hamlets seem to live in it ... but ultimately you get get use to it (sort of) .☺
The big milestone today was passing the 100 km to Santiago mileage marker (see pic ) in fact we have walked 691km of the Camino. The kind authorities place a marker every 1/2 Km so we have a constant encouragement?
With out one week left till Santiago including a rest day tomorrow we are trying to keep days shorter so we maximise enjoyment , with additional number of pilgrims we will book our accommodation for the remaining time ,
So again the Camino made us work over the final 3km ... it was very not and we faced a steep descent into Portomarin though once we made it we had a delightful and breezy long walk across the river/ reservoir ... with these strange step at the end ... more about Portomarin in next post.
