Day 33 - Cruz de Ferro..dream to reality

Today was one of those days that was on our list of important Camino moments .. and we were not disappointed ... the sky was crystal clear and blue ,the walk there amazing ....our time at Cruz de Ferro (the iron cross)very meaningful .
We had left Rabanal at 7:30am and started to climb to the to the highest point on the Camino ... given that we were already @ 1,160 mtr the walk was no where as difficult as on our first few days over the Pyrenees but draw dropping just the same. The low shrub mingled with the wild flowers to create a mosaic  different to elsewhere on the Camino. There had been so many stories of horrific changes in weather on the mountain we actually pulled out our  polypro's...well it was 36 deg C..still and not a cloud in the sky....we still have Galacia proper to go so won't tempt the Camino fate.
After spending some time at the Cuz de Ferro, leaving momento's , some bought from Oz...and doing our business with God that they and our pilgrimage had inspired. It was truly a foot of the cross experience....most stopped at the cross and had a moment...others just walked by...as on the Camino as in life!
On our descent we popped into an unconventional Alburgue at Manjarin run by Thomas the Templar.. modern day knight..no power but very colorful and full of character..check out the pic with sign post to all parts òf the world...just another ingredient that makes up the colour of the Camino.
We continued to be mesmerised by the landscape as we walk until we had to descend sharply on shail & rock covered pathway ... thank goodness the weather was great ... these descents can play havoc with your feet . bruised & blistered toes etc so we took it very slowly not wanting any sprained ankles etc . Consequently the 18 km took far longer than normal ..but we finally made to Acebo, a beautiful little town parched on the side of a mountain on the way to our next day off @ Ponferrada . .. enjoying beautiful views as we relax in this sprawling/ resort style alburgue doing our blog and waiting for another pilgrims dinner @ 7pm.
So here we are, over 70% of the Camino done ..a mere 228 kms to go! We are well and truly in the rhythm and simplicity of the Camino..
Ps: in the middle of nowhere Spain and who should come out of the speakers but Crowded House..."hey now hey now..don't dream its over"...another Camino message from home...the Camino still has much in store.
