Today was all about relaxing and giving the body valuable time to recuperate ... some might say a waste of time but we remain injury free and enjoy all that the Camino has to offer ... sounds like a sensible thing to me (if you have the time ) .
So after a sleep in . a lazy breakfast we tackled the reason Ponferada Is known so well on the Camino ... the knights temper castle . It had a major restoration / renovation in the past 3 years and is a magnificent site atop the hill in the old city . It has a rich history steeped in the Camino with knights templar being original protectors of Pilgrims on the Way but as with every good story they became too rich and powerful for their own good and were ultimately persecuted to extinction by the religious and noble powers of the time ... its well worth a stop over . We also had another Camino blessing ... it was FREE entry Wednesday!
After a cafe frappe I realised I had lost my Nike cap ... I had left it on a chair @ a eatery we were at yesterday. I had failed to do our customary "KEN PEARCE " check that we do everywhere. This religious check for anything left behind is named after Anita's dads disciplined checking drilled into his daughters .. .. fortunately the Spanish are an honest lot and when I approach a guy setting up tables & chairs he smiled and raced inside to retrieve it ... whew kept the record of only losing Anita's Phone charger so far.
Wednesday must be a popular day in Ponferrada as there were large markets along the river which we wandered through . Lots of good things but unfortunately we would have to carry them so shopping is limited to a few pairs of replacement undies ... how exciting .☺
So alter an early dinner ( everything shuts from 4- 7Pm ) we are relaxing before a final stroll then early to bed.
Tomorrow we head toward Galacia . . And a very busy section of the Camino so we book ahead. The lack of Spanish make fore interesting conversations..sometimes you hope it was understood. We were hoping to stay at O'cebreiro but it is very touristy and because we were going to be there on a weekend everything was book so we have to walk a longer day to another village.
So time is running out as the outside world presses in...dam you social media.☺
